Amanda Knox tells Rudy Guede to ‘clear my name once and for all’ and ‘bring closure for Meredith Kercher’s family’ as he completes his sentence for the British student’s murder
アマンダノックス has called on Rudy Guede to ‘restore her wrongly damaged reputation’ and take full responsibility for the murder of Meredith Kercher as he completed his sentence for the killing.
ゲーデ, 34, was formally released on Tuesday 14 years after the grisly murder and sexual assault of 21-year-old Kercher in Perugia, イタリア, 十一月に 2007.
彼は有罪判決を受けました 2008 for the murder that also saw Kercher’s American flatmate Knox and her Italian boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito jailed but then sensationally acquitted.
Guede was found guilty after his DNA was discovered on Kercher’s body despite his claims that he was in the bathroom listening to music when she was killed.
In a thread posted on Twitter, Knox wrote on Tuesday that she wants Guede to help clear her name by admitting he acted alone in the murder.
彼女は書いた: ‘Rudy Guede, the man who killed Meredith Kercher and falsely accused me, just had his sentence reduced yet again. He is now free, and his relationship with the Italian justice system is definitively over. How do you imagine I feel?

‘When I was wrongly convicted of his crime, I was sentenced to 26 年. ゲーデ, whose fingerprints were found in Meredith’s blood, whose DNA was on her body, and who immediately fled the country while I was helping the police, に刑を宣告された 30 年, reduced to 16 on appeal.
'に 2020, after serving 13 years of that 16 year sentence, Guede was granted work-release to serve the remaining 3 years outside a prison wall.
‘Guede holds a tremendous power to heal others harmed by his actions. He has the power to tell the truth, to take responsibility, to stop blaming me for the rape and murder of Meredith Kercher, which a wealth of evidence shows he committed alone.’
Guede has been living outside jail on probation in the town of Viterbo since last year after his sentence was reduced for good behaviour.
He has always denied killing Kercher.
Knox continued: ‘Were he to actually acknowledge his responsibility, it would bring closure to the Kercher family, it would end the murky speculation around this case, it would restore my wrongly damaged reputation, and that of Raffaele.
‘His honesty would also end the slanted media coverage, which endlessly repeats the phrase “the only person who remains convicted of killing British student Meredith Kercher” which is true, but implies that there were multiple responsible parties.
Knox called on Guede to make amends for his crimes and admit he carried out the killing alone
‘There were not. Guede acted alone. And if he were to admit to his actions, then the media could simply refer to him without this convoluted phrasing: “Rudy Guede, the man who killed Meredith Kercher and blamed an innocent American girl.”
‘Guede could do all that right now. He could ask for forgiveness. And if he did, if he showed true remorse and signs that he was committed to an honest life and to making amends for his terrible crimes, I would applaud him, wish him well, and urge others to see his humanity.
‘People change. Has Rudy? They say the truth will set you free. Today he’s free, and he has yet to tell the truth, allowing others to continue bearing the burden of his guilt.’
Those who know the killer say he is a model prisoner who has put the past behind him and spends his days studying for his master’s degree.
‘Unfortunately there are many media outlets and newspapers that want to interview Rudy. 私は言う “残念ながら” because Rudy is not a star and after 14 years he just wants to be forgotten,’ said Claudio Mariani, a professor of criminology who helped with Guede’s rehabilitation.
‘There is nothing more to add to this story apart from the fact that the life of a young British woman was cut short and from her family we learned dignity and the value of silence.’
