Jurgen Klopp‘s side will face in the final for the second time in recent history, following their 3-1 defeat to the Spanish giants back in 2018.

しかしながら, things could be different for the Reds who have grown since then and boast a very flattering score in our danger ratings.

Liverpool and Real Madrid will face off once again in the Champions League final on Saturday

    LIVERPOOL MANAGER: JURGEN KLOPP 9/10

Liverpool’s players have been labelled ‘mentality monsters’ and that starts at the top with Klopp. Win tonight and there will be cuddles galore. I’m glad he has signed an extension to stay in the Premier League.

    ALISSON BECKER 9/10

He has kept clean sheets in the finals of the Champions League, FA Cup and Club World Cup. A sweeper keeper who is as good as anyone in one-v-one situations, so even if Madrid get behind Liverpool’s high line, they have their work cut out to score.

    TRENT ALEXANDER-ARNOLD 8.5/10

Averages the most touches per game of any Champions League player this season, such is his influence. But Wolves got behind Liverpool last Sunday by targeting the space these flying full backs leave behind. The worry is Vinicius Junior will expose that, あまりにも.

Trent Alexander-Arnold's battle with Vinicius Jr could be the key to victory on Saturday

    JOEL MATIP 8/10

Van Dijk starts, but whether Ibrahima Konate or Matip partners the Dutchman is up for debate. I would opt for Matip, an unsung hero this season. He has looked assured and been switched on.

    VIRGIL VAN DIJK 9/10

He wasn’t on the list of nominations but Van Dijk is my Player of the Year. Liverpool are a totally different team with him in their defence. He is the best centre back in the world and him being fit is a massive boost.

    ANDY ROBERTSON 8.5/10

Robertson is to Liverpool’s left what Alexander-Arnold is to the right. But again, there is a vulnerability that comes with his marauding runs. Liverpool’s strength can also be a weakness, as Wolves showed. This could be where this final is won and lost.

    JORDAN HENDERSON 8/10

Henderson has featured in 56 of Liverpool’s 62 games this season — the most of anyone. The captain gives them drive and leadership and has the legs and intelligence to spot when he needs to cover for Alexander-Arnold.

    FABINHO 8.5/10

He hasn’t played since May 10 because of a hamstring issue but it would be enormous for Liverpool if he is fit to start as expected. Defensive cog gives the team assurance in midfield with the way he spots the danger and snuffs it out.

    THIAGO ALCANTARA 8.5/10

ああ, how Real will hate it if he’s won his race to be fit, which seems to be the case. Ancelotti managed him at Bayern. He knows full well that Thiago can pose problems with his pinpoint passing and creativity.

    MOHAMED SALAH 9/10

We all know what happened in the 2018 final — the injury inflicted by Sergio Ramos. Salah now has the ultimate opportunity for revenge on Real. By his standards, he has had a dip in form, but Salah remains a man capable of magic.

    SADIO MANE 9/10

I’ve liked seeing Mane perform as a false nine. He is good at breaking behind, timing his runs to perfection, linking up play and, もちろん, scoring goals. He loves the big games and ruthlessness is needed tonight.

    LUIS DIAZ 9/10

The Premier League’s best new addition. In four months, he’s got his hands on the Carabao Cup and FA Cup. Now he wants the Champions League. His dynamism and directness are dangerous and he is capable of having Dani Carvajal on toast.

REAL MADRID MANAGER: CARLO ANCELOTTI 9/10

To think he was managing Everton a year ago! He has shown his Champions League pedigree. This isn’t the greatest Madrid side we’ve seen but that smart cookie Ancelotti found a way to get them here.

    THIBAUT COURTOIS 8.5/10

He’s made the most saves in the Champions League this season. A nice stat for him but worrying for Madrid. It means the defence doesn’t protect him properly. Top shot-stopper but Alisson is better with his feet.

    DANI CARVAJAL 7.5/10

Right-back who stands between Diaz and Madrid’s goal. The accomplished Carvajal will hope his right-sided forward helps him out by dropping with Robertson, because handling him and Diaz would be tricky.

Dani Carvajal has been an integral part of Madrid's side during their success in the last decade

Dani Carvajal has been an integral part of Madrid’s side during their success in the last decade

    EDER MILITAO 7.5/10

Militao’s form has been criticised in Spain but you don’t feature so many times in a Madrid defence without having something about you. He is expected to partner Antonio Rudiger next season, loves a block and will put his body on the line.

    DAVID ALABA 8/10

Alaba is back in training and that’s a boost for Madrid. He has been there, done it, won it. Liverpool would have preferred to see this versatile defender watching from the stands but any rustiness risks being exposed.

    FERLAND MENDY 8/10

You may recall Mendy’s goal-line clearance to stop Manchester City’s Jack Grealish scoring in the semi-final. That was as good as a goal, effectively keeping Madrid in the Champions League. He is aggressive but Salah will fancy his chances.

    LUKA MODRIC 9/10

The little artist is searching for his fifth Champions League crown. He is capable of magic. Like that first-time cross for Benzema to score in the quarter-final first leg at Chelsea, or that outside-of-the-foot assist for Rodrygo in the second leg. パンデミック後の休暇を守り、ポケットから出てしまわないようにしましょう, リバプール.

    CASEMIRO 8.5/10

Fortunate to be in this final as he could have been sent off against Manchester City for chopping down Kevin De Bruyne and dragging back Phil Foden. A master of dark arts who loves making sure an opponent wakes up with a bruise the next morning.

    TONI KROOS 8.5/10

Whoever starts for Liverpool in midfield, the worry is that Kroos and Modric will make piggies in the middle of them. Kroos is a tidy technician who has emerged with a silly passing accuracy of 94 per cent in the Champions League this season.

    FEDERICO VALVERDE 8/10

Do you play Valverde or Rodrygo? Given the latter’s semi-final heroics with those two late goals against Manchester City, he would want to start. But Rodrygo can be the super-sub again. Ancelotti is a fan of the tireless and reliable Valverde.

    KARIM BENZEMA 9.5/10

The Champions League’s top scorer this season with 15 目標. As Chelsea and City discovered, you can’t give this guy an inch. A master of movement, a ruthless taker of half a yard, a first-class striker and the Real deal.

    VINICIUS JUNIOR 9/10

Creator of the most chances in this season’s competition. No wonder Benzema gravitates towards the left more than the right. He and Vinicius combine so well and that is a concern for Liverpool.
