    The fearsome reptile was seen holding the mangled prey in its jaws as it swam in the murky Ladongi River in East Kolaka Regency in Southeast Sulawesi.

    Witnesses said the victim, a 60-year-old man named Wacalling, was fishing in the river when the predator pounced on him and dragged him into the water.

    It later emerged on the surface of the water, still holding onto the lifeless body.

    Onlookers said the reptile had already bitten off one of Wacalling’s arms.

    Ari, the victim’s neighbour, said: ‘There were several people at the location when the grandfather was attacked by the crocodile, but they did not dare to help and approach the river.’

    Villagers alerted the authorities in East Kolaka to inform them of the incident.

    Wahyudi, Public Relations Officer of the Kendari SAR Agency, said: ‘His body was found in an incomplete condition. It was found about two kilometers from where he was attacked by the crocodile.’
