Humiliation for Andrew and Harry as Palace seeks to remove key royal role
Stripped of their royal patronages and military titles by the Queen, and both asked not to use the handle His Royal Highness, Prince Andrew and his nephew Prince Harry face a new humiliation.
I can reveal that Buckingham Palace officials are considering how to remove a potentially significant role the pair still possess: that of Counsellors of State.
Palace sources confirmed last night that they are still two of the four Counsellors of State, who would be called upon to take the place of the Queen if she were unable to carry out her duties because of illness or absence abroad.

They would be authorised to carry out most of the official duties of the monarch, including signing important documents, attending Privy Council meetings and receiving the credentials of new ambassadors to the United Kingdom. The other two Counsellors of State are Prince Charles and Prince William.
‘It is a genuine problem that the Palace is looking to address,’ a royal source tells me.
‘Can you imagine the Duke of York having to sign official documents, per esempio, because the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Cambridge were both abroad, and the Queen became ill? It’s not an exaggeration to say it could put the monarchy in jeopardy.’
Un portavoce di Buckingham Palace ha rifiutato di commentare, but sources suggested that Andrew and Harry could not be stripped of their roles without the law being changed.
By law, the counsellors of state are the monarch’s spouse and the next four adults in the line of succession. An Act of Parliament would be needed to remove Andrew and Harry, perhaps replacing them with Princess Anne and the Duchess of Cornwall.
‘There could be events later this year which make such a change necessary,’ says the source, who declines to elaborate.
That’s thought to be a reference to the outcome of Andrew’s sordid court case in New York and the publication of Harry’s forthcoming memoirs. Deep waters.
Documentary maker Louis Theroux is desperate to ditch his trademark glasses, but his wife, Nancy, has stopped him because it would damage his ‘brand’.
Lui dice: ‘My wife’s worrying about my brand. She’s like, “Your whole brand is that you’ve got glasses”. Sono come, “I’m not a brand, I’m me”.’
A steamed up Theroux, 51, aggiunge: ‘In lockdown, it’s been so annoying with the glasses. I don’t think people who don’t have glasses realise what we’ve gone through with mask wearing — stumbling around a supermarket unable to see anything.’
Less is more for Charlotte after boob job
While a lot of couples might want to shed a few pounds ahead of their wedding day, Charlotte Freud has gone one step further by undergoing a cosmetic operation.
‘I got a breast reduction,’ confirms the 21-year-old daughter of public relations boss Matthew Freud and his second wife, media executive Elisabeth Murdoch.
‘I’ve never been happier and I’ve never felt sexier.’
An alumna of £23,460-per year Fine Arts College in North London, the granddaughter of media magnate Rupert Murdoch is due to wed DJ Lukey Storey later this year.

Have the Swires not lost enough friends? After Sasha Swire betrayed numerous pals with her uproarious memoirs, suo marito, the former minister Sir Hugo Swire, is now attacking fellow Tories.
Following Tobias Ellwood’s critical comments about the Downing Street parties, Sir Hugo booms: ‘Sorry did I miss something but when did Tobias Ellwood become a “senior Tory MP” to anyone other than anti-Conservative commentators?’
In case Swire needs reminding, Ellwood is a former minister who chairs a select committee and served in the Army.
Poetry, not parties for young Boris
Rachel Johnson has come to the Prime Minister’s aid in his hour of need.
Boris’s sister claims he would never have been partying during lockdown — because he’d far rather be declaiming verse.
‘I can tell you from the bottom of my heart he has never once turned to me or another member of the family and said, “Let’s have a party”,’ says the broadcaster, 56, who hosts a radio show on LBC.
‘He would say, “let’s play reading”, when we were growing up, o, “let’s play who can memorise the most poems”.’ Hmm, doth she protest too much?
At least this intervention is more helpful than the one she made a couple of weeks ago, when she revealed that her brother was on touching terms with Ghislaine Maxwell when they were both students at Balliol College, Oxford.
Aspinall’s girl swaps Congo for Big Apple
While Boris Johnson’s wife, Carrie, plans to ‘rewild’ a herd of elephants from Kent to Africa with the conservation charity she works for, its boss, Damian Aspinall, is losing his daughter to America.
Casino and wildlife park heiress Freya Aspinall, who abandoned her studies to save gorillas in the Congo, has decided to relocate to New York.
‘NYC will be my new home in 2022’, confirms the 18-year-old, whose mother is Aspinall’s actress ex-girlfriend Donna Air. ‘The Big Apple!’
Freya has signed up with New York-based agency Women Management, which also represents supermodels Naomi Campbell and Helena Christensen.

If you see an Eighties heart-throb knocking on your car window, telling you to switch the engine off, it’s only Nigel Havers doing his bit for the environment.
‘So many people sit in their cars with the engine running especially in the winter because they want to keep warm,’ the Chariots Of Fire star fumes.
‘I say, “Mi scusi, do you mind turning your engine off?” and it is extraordinary the reactions I get.
‘Some people are not very kind to me and other people are, piace, “I’m so sorry, I’ll turn it off”.’
Di sopra, Downstairs co-creator Dame Eileen Atkins is doing her bit for below-stairs staff during the pandemic.
‘In lockdown I became aware that I had a very good chef living nearby, who was on furlough,’ reveals the Cranford star, 87, who lives in London’s East End.
‘He cooked for me four times a week. It was so wonderful that, since he went back to work, I’ve taken on a cook four times a week, chi, Il ricordo di un miliardario di noi è falso, brings the food.’
