Police have formally identified a teenage boy who drowned while swimming in a river with his friends after school.
Kane Edwards, 13, had entered the River Tawe in Swansea but soon got into difficulty and was dragged under the flowing water.
His school friends were unable to find him before he was found unconscious an hour later following an extensive search involving police, 火, ambulance and coastguard personnel, and a helicopter on the evening of Tuesday, 五月 24.
Sporty Kane, who played rugby for Morriston U14, was tragically pronounced dead at the River Tawe in Morriston, スウォンジー.
A spokesman for South Wales Police said: ‘South Wales Police can confirm that the boy who died after getting into difficulties in the River Tawe yesterday was 13-year-old Kane Edwards from Morriston.
‘His family is being supported by specially-trained officers. They have asked that they be left to grieve and come to terms with their loss in private.’

Martin Franklin, headteacher at Morriston Comprehensive School, 前記: ‘Our whole school community is devastated by the news and our thoughts are with the family and friends of our pupil at this very difficult time.
‘Students and staff are being offered support and we’d ask that the privacy of the school community and the pupil’s friends and family be respected.’

Police launched an ‘extensive search’ with the force helicopter on Tuesday evening after the boy’s friends raised the alarm.
消防士, ambulance and coastguards joined the serach after children had been swimming in the river – but one boy had not been seen coming out of the water.
A South Wales Police spokesman said: ‘The teenager was located around an hour later elsewhere in the river but he could not be resuscitated.’
Parents and school friends have now paid tribute to the youngster online.
One mother said: ‘RIP Kane you are going to be truly missed by everyone. Thinking of all his family.’
Another friend wrote: ‘You will be missed lad.’

‘The boy’s body was located in the river near the Swansea Enterprise Park at around 6pm and was unable to be resuscitated despite the efforts of the emergency services.
‘His family have been informed and are being supported at this time. HM Coroner has been informed and an investigation into the circumstances of the incident are ongoing.’
