Borgerson recently resigned from his role as CEO of Boston-based CargoMetrics, to ‘ensure his presence would not become a distraction from the work he believes in so deeply,’ the company said in a statement.

But the 44-year-old hasn’t been able to hide out fully, or to avoid the wrath of neighbors who still want him gone, even after Maxwell was hauled off to jail, potentially for the rest of her life.

Speaking from her 10ft by 12ft prison cell inside New York's notorious Metropolitan Detention Center, Maxwell said: 'I have been assaulted and abused for almost a year and a half'

‘Every time I see him, I give him the middle finger,’ said a man whose relative is the property manager of the 40-acre estate where Borgerson lives. ‘But I don’t see him around much anymore.

Maxwell had been holed up with him in a seven-bedroom home at the estate known as Sharksmouth, situated in the quaint, well-to-do town 30 miles north of Boston.

Since the arrest, Borgerson has rarely been spotted around town. People at a local pizza shop and convenience store say they see him maybe a couple times a month, and he almost never walks into local bars or restaurants, according to locals.

It’s still an open question whether Borgerson will take the trek to New York to attend the trial in support of his wife.

Questions about the true nature of their relationship remain.

Prosecutors revealed the couple is married, but they managed to keep it a secret even from some close relatives.

DailyMail.com has been unable to find any marriage license, or divorce papers, filed under their names in town or in the county where they were living.

But there are also indications that Borgerson may have moved on with his personal life. A source told DailyMail.com that Borgerson has been dating a new woman in town. The woman refused to confirm or deny a relationship when approached by DailyMail.com.
