    Georgia Duncan was a rear seat passenger in a silver Ford Fiesta when it smashed into a wall on a country lane to the north of Durham.

    Emergency services rushed to the scene but despite their best efforts Georgia was pronounced dead.

    An 18-year-old man who was driving and two passengers – an 18-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl – were all taken to hospital with serious injuries.

    The family asked for privacy to grieve.

    Flowers have been left at the scene of the incident on Potterhouse Lane near the village of Pity Me. 

    Skid marks on the road are believed to show that the car was travelling in an easterly direction.

    The section of the low brick wall that was destroyed in the crash has been cordoned off.

    Police have launched an investigation into the crash and are appealing for witnesses to come forward. 

    A Durham Constabulary spokesman said: ‘Police are keen to speak to any witnesses who were in the area at the time, or anyone who may have any dashcam footage of the vehicle prior to the collision.’
