医者, who practices in New York, role-played in the viral clip to show why consistently wearing panty liners could cause contact dermatitis around the vulva.

Dr Annie Frenkel has warned women against the harmful side effects constantly wearing panty liners can bring
The TikTok gynaecologist advised only to use panty liners on light days at the end of a period or very occasionally
‘I can see you have a defined line around the vulva, are you using daily panty liners?’
Replying as the patient, Annie went on to enact an answer she’s used to hearing, 言って, 'はい. I wear them everyday. I don’t like the feeling of discharge on my underwear.’
Continuing with her medical advice, she then revealed: ‘Yes well that’s likely what’s causing the irritation. Looks like you have contact dermatitis from the liners on your vulva all the time.’
次に, responding to a question regarding what the patient should do about discharge, Dr Annie suggested: ‘I’d recommend carrying a Ziploc bag with you in your purse.
Annie further explained in a later video that stopping using them may lead to other problems if the patient persistently scratches
‘When you feel discharge, change your underwear. But don’t wear those liners anymore, your vulva skin does not like them.’
In a follow up video where Dr Annie portrayed the patient to be back in her office with irritation despite stopping the use of panty liners, she revealed another reason why they can cause further problems down the line.
彼女は言いました: ‘The bad news is that due to all the scratching you were doing due to the contact dermatitis you developed Lichen simplex chronicus.’
Most women on the post were grateful for the advice with some even saying it had helped them personally
Commenters on the original video were quick to heed Dr Annie’s advice.
What is Lichen simplex chronicus?
Lichen simplex or Lichen simplex chronicus is the skin’s response to repeated friction over time, such as scratching or rubbing.
It presents as one or more thickened or rough areas of skin, that appear marked or have bumps around the hair follicles.
It can be painful, but the most common symptom is itching, which in turn exacerbates the problem.
The condition can be treated with ointments, creams and antihistamine tablets, although it’s crucial to tackle the underlying cause to ensure it doesn’t come back.
一人が言った, ‘I just started wearing liners 24/7 約 3 数か月前. The same time I started having major irritation. I thought it was something else. ありがとうございました。’
Another person wrote, ‘Shocked at the amount of women wearing liners everyday!!! That’s insane. Just wipe it out w toilet paper when it happens.’
A third agreed saying, ‘Omg this is me! I’ve been so uncomfortable with discharge for so long! And I always have issues. No doctor has ever said anything.’
Some commenters, しかしながら, were hesitant to stop using liners despite Annie’s medical advice.
一人が言った: ‘I wear them everyday and haven’t had any problems. It’s not “sad” or weird, it just makes me feel more comfortable, to each their own I guess.’
別の人が言った間, ‘Why are people so bothered if some of us women prefer to wear liners all day? It’s personal preference.’
Speaking to the Mail Online, Dr Annie said, ‘I did make a video answering these kinds of comments stating that if you have been wearing them as they say for the longest time without any issues then that’s ok.’
‘Some women are just not as sensitive. This video is for women who have been having irritation and may not know it is related to their daily liner use.’
‘And as always if irritation doesn’t resolve after discontinuing daily use for a month see your Gyn.’
