    The Business Secretary said Britain must continue its push towards a ‘sovereignenergy system to ‘protect people and businesses in the future’.

    He said it is important the UK becomes a ‘producer and exporterof energy rather than a ‘customer and importer’.

    He made the comments as the UK prepares to welcome world leaders to 글래스고 for the COP26 기후 변화 summit.

    Writing in the Sunday Telegraph, Mr Kwarteng said the summit will be a ‘pivotal two weeksas nations try to hammer out a plan to reduce harmful emissions and limit global warming to 1.5 degrees.

    The Cabinet minister said the summit ‘will require each nation to step up and take responsibility’.

    He said the recent volatility in gas prices has ‘brought homethe ‘urgent need to end our dependency on fossil fuels, particularly foreign oil and gas’.

    Mr Kwarteng said ‘relying on other countriesfor energy is ‘simply not sustainable’, arguing that it ‘leaves the British people at the mercy of excessive global price fluctuations that are completely out of our control’.
