In an Instagram post six days earlier, Lady Victoria claimed Ghislaine Maxwell’s trial and sentencing has ‘become a witch hunt’, toevoeging: ‘This story has been so blown out of proportionI know Ghislaine is obviously not a saint and should pay back the trauma caused to her “slagoffers” but lifetime in jail for touching a girls t*t 20 years ago and taking them on yacht, private jet and shopping trips. Maxwell, 60, was last month convicted on five counts of sex trafficking and other crimes for recruiting and grooming teenage girls to have sexual encounters with the late financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

She faces up to 65 years in prison and is currently in solitary confinement at New York’s Metropolitan Detention Centre.

Social media users were quick to accuse Lady Victoria of ‘switching her narrativeafter last month claiming in ITV’s Ghislaine, Prince Andrew and the Paedophile documentary that Maxwell used her as ‘baitto entertain Epstein’s friends, saying the paedophile ‘kind of sat back and sort of waited for her to sort of go fishing’.

Sharing a clip of herself from her recent appearance on Lorraine, Lady Victoria wrote: ‘Please can someone let me know what the age of consent is in the UK, I thought it’s 17. Some of these stories sound like a case study of Regret turning into Revenge.

‘This story has been so blown out of proportion. Or has it. Nobody knows. People are literally murdering people in LA and getting out of jail. It’s a real life Gotham city blood bath.

‘I know Ghislaine is obviously not a saint and should pay back the trauma caused to her “slagoffers” but lifetime in jail for touching a girls t*t 20 years ago and taking them on yacht, private jet and shopping trips. Kom. This has become a witch hunt. Thoughts on this? What does she deserve?’

‘This is a much different narrative from the multiple interviews and documentary you’ve done over the years on the subject. Why the switch,’ questioned one person in the comments section of the post.

Lady Victoria replied: ‘It’s not a switch. I’m just trying to critically analyse what the sentence should be and at the end of the day she’s not a serial killer. That’s my point. Not a switch. I’ve never spoken on her actual sentencing.

Accused of victim shaming by asking what the age of consent is in the UK, the socialite insisted: ‘I’m saying [Maxwell] shouldn’t be the only fall guy.

Others also disagreed with the US-based socialite, met een persoon wat skryf: ‘She did not just touch a girls t*t, she coerced, manipulated and facilitated the sexual assault of numerous young girls.

‘I’m very disappointed and concerned that you try to minimise the sexual assaults by commenting on the fact these girls got took shopping and on private jets. Also the reference to LA’s crime issues is of no relevance at all.

‘I’m not at all,’ responded Lady Victoria. ‘I feel terrible for them if it’s true and not just lawyers pushing them to get pay-outs.

Another outraged follower commented: ‘Regardless of age of consent these young women were targeted because of their circumstances.

‘Using the age of consent as a way to justify what happened to these girls and very young women is unacceptable.

‘I’m surprised as a woman you aren’t sickened by what she would have purposely ignored happening or was involved in. Her role was integral in the abuse.

‘Girls trust women and she aided this abuse. This is abuse of power, money and status. Abuse stays with victims for lifeShe has ruined the lives of so many women.

‘A disgusting level of elitism and misunderstanding when it comes to the under privileged. I urge you to reconsider your willingness to disregard the suffering of their victims based on your own personal opinions of someone you may have considered a friend.

She told the documentary: ‘Jeffrey was really the frontman and Ghislaine was the accomplice. It was kind of like a Batman and Robin, and they were a double act. I don’t think Jeffrey could have done any of it without Ghislaine.

Singh asked Lady Victoria: ‘And Ghislaine was crucial to getting those girls, was she, do you think to those dinners?’

Lady Victoria replied: ‘I think he just kind of sat back and sort of waited for her to sort of go fishing and go find however many girls were needed, jy weet, to entertain his friends. I think I was pretty much used as bait.

She told the morning breakfast presenter: ‘She is a scapegoat right now, so unfortunately for her, she is being taken down for what he has done as well. Some might argue is not quite as fair as it could be.

She was a victim that then became the accomplice as her role changed in that relationship when they were no longer together. She kind of switched sides. I do see her as a victim as well.

Lorraine went on to question the socialite over her own connections with the pair, sê: ‘Why do you think, if you were just an ordinary girl with no connections, do you think she specifically wanted you in that place?’

Lady Victoria said: ‘At the time I was the IT girl of London, on the social scene, everyone knew me, I was at every dinner event. It was a plus having me on her list of who to invite.

‘It probably kept it more interesting for all the men she was entertaining. Obviously you want to have attractive girls who are the hot girls in London at the time.

She added that Epstein and Maxwell were ‘definitely a double act’, sê: ‘It wouldn’t have worked with him on his own. It was a lot easier for her to approach other women being a female.

‘Girls would feel less intimated and less scared, rather than a man. It would have been a lot less obvious in that respect.

Meanwhile Lady Victoria said she ‘had followed some of the trialbut was ‘a bit disappointed’. She explained the public ‘hadn’t learned anything newand because the trial wasn’t televised she felt ‘a detachment from it.

Sy het gese: ‘She hasn’t really named any new names yet. I’m hopingthat she will start giving out names. I don’t think we’re quite there yet.

And asked if Maxwell ever spoke to her about her friendship with Andrew, Lady Victoria admitted: 'Geen. ek bedoel, she was really quite private about a lot, but obviously they were good friends. You can just tell by the body language when you see people, when they’re good friends.

Maxwell has a sentencing hearing scheduled for June 28.

Intussen, in an official response to claims made against him by Ms Giuffre five months ago, the Duke of York this week issued 41 denials, rejecting all allegations of wrongdoing, and said a further 40 times that he ‘lacks sufficient information to admit or denyother claims.

His lawyers also demanded a ‘trial by juryin the New York civil case.

Andrew is fighting the case as a private citizen after being forced to step down from royal duties, but his decision to demand a ‘trial by juryis set to ‘put him on a collision course with the Palace’, royal sources told the Mail earlier this week.

The spectacle of a trial in New York later this year threatens to overshadow the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations scheduled for June.
