She said the contact lens felt like it was ‘stuck’ on her right eye when she tried to take it out later that night, so she pulled harder. 最初は, it felt like a ‘really bad scratch,’ but the next morning, she woke up in ‘excruciating pain’ and could barely open her eye because it was so swollen.

Jordyn claimed that when she dashed to the emergency room, she was told that the lens had removed the outer layer of her cornea. There was a chance she would need surgery, and she could possibly lose her eyesight.
‘It was a real-life nightmare on Halloween. It was something I never expected to happen,’ 彼女は言いました. ‘It was very frightening. There was a handful of days where my vision was completely blurry and I couldn’t see anything out of my eye. I was afraid that I would become blind in my right eye.
‘The first two days were the scariest. The first day everyone I saw was saying that it was bad. so I was preparing for the long-term issues that were going to happen. “Am I going to have to pay for a specialist? Are they going to have to do surgery on my eye?”‘
Jordyn, who creates content online about skin education, beauty hacks, and makeup looks, claimed she’d ordered from Dolls Kill a handful of times before buying the Halloween-themed contacts.
‘I had seen all over social media other people ordering from there, wearing the contacts and being fine with them,’ 彼女は言いました.
‘I had never tried costume contacts before so I was like, “OK, maybe I’ll give them a try this year” because I’d seen so many people use them before and honestly had no idea that this could happen.
Following the crowd: Jordyn said she decided to order the contacts after seeing people wearing them without issue on social media
思い返す: The makeup artist said the lenses would occasionally move slightly, but they stayed in all evening and didn’t cause any ‘crazy irritation’ 最初は
‘I ordered them and kind of had a bad feeling in the moment just because on the website there were no reviews or photos of people using them, but it was from a really popular online site so that’s what made me second guess that gut intuition.
‘On the website itself, there was no manufacturer information, no actual reviews sharing their experiences or uploading photos. There was very minimal information.’
Jordyn said she put eye drops in beforehand to condition her eye and once the lenses were in, they felt a little too big and slightly uncomfortable, but that subsided after 30 分.

‘We were all hanging out and the contacts started irritating my eye and getting uncomfortable, but I had also had it in then for about six hours, so I thought it was probably time to take them out,’ 彼女は言いました.
Start of it all: Jordyn said the contact lens felt like it was ‘stuck’ on her right eye when she tried to take it out later that night, so she pulled harder
大野: 最初は, it felt like a ‘really bad scratch,’ but the next morning, she woke up in ‘excruciating pain’ and could barely open her eye because it was so swollen
‘I have worn contacts before, so I took the contacts, slid it a little bit, and tried to grab it how I normally would, and it felt like it was stuck and I didn’t get the right grab on it.
‘So the second time I went in I grabbed it a little bit firmer and took it out of my eye and at that point it was just full of tears and it immediately felt like I had a really bad scratch on my eye.
‘I just started loading my eye with eye drops and splashing it with cold water. It felt like I had a piece of something stuck in my eye, so I was just rinsing, rinsing, and rinsing trying to get it out.
‘My eye was bloodshot red, nothing was coming out of it. I was opening my eye and having my friends take a look with a flashlight to see if they could see anything stuck in it.’
Jordyn, who’s working toward getting a master’s degree, decided she’d just need to ‘sleep it off,’ but when she got up the following day, there was no escaping the discomfort in her right eye.
‘I woke up at 6 am and was in excruciating pain. My eye was burning and so swollen I could barely open it at that point,’ 彼女は思い出した.
痛い: Jordyn claimed that when she went to the ER, the doctor told her it looked like the outer layer of her cornea had been completely removed
怖い: The doctor also allegedly told her boyfriend that she could possibly lose her eyesight
‘I immediately started crying because of the pain. It was really hard to manage it in the moment. The whole drive [to the ER] I was in excruciating pain.
‘I don’t even know how to describe it. It was some of the worst pain I’ve ever encountered. It feels like a burning, scratching, so much irritation in the eye area.
‘[医者] looked at my eye and basically said that the outer layer of my cornea looked like it had been completely removed and that’s why the pain was so bad.
‘He told my boyfriend, “There could be a chance that she could lose eyesight. I’m not going to sugarcoat it, this is really really bad.”‘
Jordyn was sent home with eye drops, antibiotics, painkillers, and an eye patch, and she said she saw an ophthalmologist that day who confirmed her diagnosis.

応答: Dolls Kill said they were not the manufacturer of the lenses, adding that they ‘carefully vet the products and manufacturers that we carry’
She explained that her right eye was always weaker than her left eye in terms of vision, but now it is noticeably a lot worse.
‘Two days later my eye miraculously completely started to heal, which was amazing,’ 彼女は言いました. ‘It was probably about 20 percent better at the time. I was on painkillers and in bed for a week because of it. It really sucked.
‘Since the incident, right in the center of my eye, there’s always this little area that feels dry in a way, and it makes my eye more sensitive so I can barely go outside in the sun without wearing sunglasses, otherwise, they’ll just water like crazy.
‘My vision in my right eye is noticeably worse. It was always not great I could see some small text from far away but now it’s game over with that. If I’m looking at a notepad in front of me with my right eye I can’t make out the words.’
Jordyn said she’s been told that she could have recurrent corneal erosion, a painful condition characterized by the recurrent breakdown of the epithelium, the outermost layer of the cornea.
‘After the incident, the one thing that I could potentially deal with is reoccurring erosion,’ 彼女は言いました. ‘I could maybe wake up one morning and have the exact same thing happen for no apparent reason.’

‘It’s scary to me because those are so easily accessible and I think about young kids and how easy is it to use debit cards and go online and order something.’
Jordyn is hoping to raise awareness of the injuries that costume contacts can cause, and she is urging those planning to wear them to ensure they do their research first.
‘I’d never wear costume contacts again unless they’re made by a specialist who had really informed me that they’re very safe to wear,’ 彼女は言いました.
‘I hoped posting could even help one person second guess that decision if it’s really worth elevating a Halloween costume to that extent for the damage that could potentially happen.’
