    Officers from Leicestershire Police were called to an address in Desford, Leicestershire, on Thursday after neighbours raised concerns about the welfare of the couple who lived there.

    They discovered the bodies of a 69-year-old man and 79-year-woman inside the property and both had ‘significant injuries’, the force said in a statement.

    Their family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained family liaison officers.

    An investigation into the circumstances around deaths has been launched.

    Leicestershire Police is reassuring the public that there is no wider risk and confirmed they are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths.

    Detective Inspector Nicole Main from the force’s major crime team said: ‘We are working hard to understand what happened inside the address and how the two people died.

    ‘At this stage we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the investigation and there is no wider risk identified to the public.

    ‘The family are being supported by specially trained family liaison officers at this distressing time.

    ‘I understand that there will be questions but our investigation is ongoing into the circumstance of the deaths.
