‘Going to court to give evidence was the most awful thing I could ever imagine it to be. It made me feel like I was on trial. Being accused of making up the worst thing that ever happened to me was heart-breaking.’
‘It is very difficult to put into words how overwhelming, intense and heart-breaking this has been.
‘Even though he had been found guilty my life will never go back to normal. I am glad that I have found the strength to come to court as it will stop him from doing it to anyone else, but I am broken and will never recover.’
Sentencing Kelly, Judge Sara Dodd told him: ‘At the time of the offence your trousers were already undone, and you were already wearing a condom. You told her if she said anything about what had happened you’d do it again and again until she learnt her lesson.

‘There is no doubt that your crime has caused severe psychiatric harm.’
Kelly was also banned from contacting the victim under the terms of a restraining order and will have to sign the sex offenders register for life.
After the case Det Con Lisa Bennett, of Lancashire Police said: ‘Kelly’s offending has had a profound impact on the victim’s life and first and foremost I want to praise her for the bravery she has shown throughout this harrowing process.
‘Not only did Kelly lie throughout this case, he also forced the victim to re-live her experience by taking the case to trial. He is truly a wicked and manipulative individual.
‘I welcome the sentence handed down by the Judge, which very much reflects the seriousness of Kelly’s crime. Once he is eventually released the public will be afforded further protection from his abhorrent behaviour by the notification requirement.
‘I hope other victims will have the confidence to come forward – no matter how long ago the offence took place – knowing they will be listened to, believed and that Lancashire Police will do everything in our power to bring the offender to justice.
‘I would like to thank all my colleagues who worked on this extremely complex case. Their hard work, and that from our colleagues at the CPS, has led to a remorseless sex offender receiving a significant custodial sentence.’
