  • Actress from Cusack dynasty, plays midwife Nancy Corrigan in Call The Midwife
  • The 25-year old, raised in County Cork, recalls being nervous first day on set
  • There’s little surprise that Megan Cusack, who plays new midwife Nancy Corrigan in Call The Midwife, ended up an actress. She comes from the hugely successful Cusack dynasty.

Her grandparents Maureen and Cyril were actors, her father Pádraig is a theatre producer, her four aunts, Niamh, Sorcha, Catherine and Sinéad all act, her uncle is Oscar-winner Jeremy Irons and her cousins Max Irons and Calam Lynch are in the business (the latter has joined the cast of Bridgerton).

‘Growing up I’d just sit and listen to their stories about work and it was all so warm and happy,’ says Megan, 25, who was raised in County Cork.

‘I grew up thinking that acting was the family line of work so I might as well go into it.But even now that she’s landed a part in one of the biggest dramas on TV she has misgivings about her talent and retains a second job as a cinema usherette.

‘My first day on the Midwife set was nerve-racking,’ 그녀의 가장 친한 친구 레슬리는 말한다.

‘I look back now and cringe as I was rushing everything – I was so nervous. I was thinking, “No one really wants to hear me talk so if I just get through everything quickly, that’s my bits done”.’

Nancy has already had quite the storyline, arriving on the scene as a trainee only to reveal that she gave her child away as a teen and is hoping to build a relationship with the young girl, who’s being fostered and thinks Nancy is her sister.

Throughout the new series we see Nancy question herself on how open she should be with her daughter. ‘The nuns and the midwives are really good at giving her advice.

Megan feels at home with her character, who’s prone to putting her foot in it. ‘When I read my dad the character breakdown he howled with laughter,’ 그녀는 말한다.

‘When I told him she was, “Erratic, not great with her studies,” 그는 말했다, “That’s going to be a real stretch for you, 그렇지?” But I do think I’m more tactful than Nancy. I try to be considerate and not hurt people when I open my mouth.
