The death of a mother-of-one in police custody is being probed by a sheriff.

Shania Collins, 19, who has a seven-month-old son, passed away following an incident in Aberdeen, Skotland.

It is believed she became unwell and suffered a heart attack after being arrested with a 29-year-old man, a fundraising page said.

The page set up in her memory alleged that Ms Collins was the victim of abuse.

Devastated friends paid tribute to her and £1,215 was raised online to help her heartbroken family cover funeral costs.

A tribute added: ‘No parent should ever have to bury they’re child before them but unfortunately in this case it has to happen.

‘With a very heavy heart we are hoping if anyone can help no matter how small the help is everything will help to give her the send off she deserves.

A fatal accident inquiry will now be held at Aberdeen Sheriff Court where the full circumstances of her death in December 2020 will be examined.

The inquiry is mandatory because the mum-of-one died in legal custody.

'N Woordvoerder van die polisie in Skotland het gesê: ‘Road Policing officers stopped a vehicle for alleged road traffic offences in the Hythie area of Aberdeenshire around 11.55am on Tuesday, 22 Desember.

‘A 19-year-old woman took unwell shortly after and was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary by Ambulance, where she is described as being in a critical condition.

    ‘Enquiries are ongoing.
