    But one of his top aides has now upped the style stakes after being spotted sporting a leather biker jacket and shirt unbuttoned halfway down his chest in a style tempting comparisons to John Travolta in Grease or sitcom character The Fonz.

    Special adviser Liam Booth-Smith completed his look with skinny trousers and black leather shoesas he strutted down the pavement with one hand tucked in his jacket and the other holding a suitcase.

    The group leaving outside of the back of No10 yesterday also included Lisa Lovering, Mr Sunak’s senior parliamentary assistant, who manages his diary, a member of his security team, and a senior civil servant.

    Mr Booth-Smith, who is in his thirties, heads up the joint No10-No11 policy unit, making him one of the Chancellor’s most senior aides.

    A housing policy expert, he was highly rated by Dominic Cummingsalso famous for pushing the boundaries of conventional business attireand Boris Johnson’s former communications chief Lee Cain, according to allies speaking to Politico.

    He served as an adviser to the PM before joining the Treasury in February 2020 as a special adviser to Mr Sunak.

    ‘He is completely and utterly Rishi,’ a former colleague said. ‘It was an inevitability [he would switch to backing Sunak] now his patron in Cummings has gone.

    The source added that Mr Booth-Smith ‘is not discreet about his dislike of the PM, 첨가: ‘He has no compunction to sarcastically sayit is going splendidly in No.10”.’

    Mr Booth-Smith was educated at the £12,000-per-year Newcastle Under Lyme School and Stoke-on-Trent Sixth Form College before gaining a BA in politics and social policy at Loughborough.

    He worked in communications and senior management roles at several think-tanks before beginning his government service by joining the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government in June 2018.
