‘This isn’t how I thought it would end’: Family and friends of influencer who was found strangled to death on Thanksgiving tell of shock as husband kills himself when US Marshals arrive to arrest him for murder
The family and friends of murdered Instagram influencer Alexis Sharkey have told of their shock after her husband Thomas shot himself dead as law enforcement closed in on him, ten months after her death.
Alexis’ sister Tobi Robinault took to Instagram Wednesday after police revealed that Sharkey had taken his own life in Florida when US Marshals arrived to arrest him for the murder of his wife.
Tom Sharkey was the only person police sought in connection with the strangling death of Alexis, 27, who was found naked by the side of the road in Houston over Danksegging in 2020.
Robinault, in 'n Instagram -plasing, wrote that this was unexpected.
‘This isn’t how I thought it would end. Miss you, you deserve everything sis. #justiceforalexis,’ sy het geskryf.

Sy het geskryf: ‘I’m currently flooded with emotions of sadness, woede, and I still find myself asking God why, but if I’m being honest with myself, even if I knew why, it’s likely I wouldn’t be satisfied with the answer anyway.
‘What I do know is that God doesn’t promise our stories will make sense in and of themselves, however he does promise they will find their greater purpose in light of his greater story of redemption,’ vervolg sy.
‘Even though Alexis is no longer physically here with us anymore her legacy will live on, her story has touched the lives of millions, raising awareness for domestic violence and giving people the courage to get out of harmful relationships.’

Intussen, police revealed that Thomas Sharkey was evasive toward police during their investigation, moving across Texas, Georgia and Florida as officials tried to nail down the killer.
Marshals issued a warrant for his arrest on September 29, and had tracked Thomas down to his daughter’s home the day before they went to arrest him.
Officials say Thomas ran up the stairs moments after cops knocked on the door.
His daughter and her boyfriend opened the door and walked out, and when investigators went inside they found their father dead.
US Marshals confirmed Thomas’ death to KHOU 11 Wednesday morning. They’ve yet to confirm it was a suicide, but say no suspects are being sought over the shooting.
Houston police revealed that their investigation determined that Tom was the only person with the ‘means, motive and opportunity’ to have committed Alexis’ moord.

Friends revealed after her death that she was trying to file for divorce from her husband and that he had allegedly abused her. Her husband has publicly denied those allegations. They are pictured together on Halloween last year
They established a history of domestic violence between the couple. They also said Tom had lied to investigators, and they had developed probable cause and an arrest warrant.
Police described Tom as ‘evasive’ throughout the investigation, saying he left Texas not long after his wife’s death.
Detectives made efforts in late July and early August to meet with him while he was living in Georgia, but he suddenly no-showed and dropped out of contact, coming up with what officials called a ‘bizarre’ explanation for his disappearance.
The plan was to charge him with murder. A task force determined he was in the Fort Myers, Florida area where he was staying with a relative.
They were able to make contact with him at around 10 nm. Tuesday night. Sharkey was not aware he was wanted for murder until police showed up at the residence.

Her naked body was found on a roadside in Houston the following day by a sanitation department worker who spotted her feet in some bushes.
Police said at the time that her body showed no signs of visible wounds, which led to initial speculation she may have overdosed.
Her body was found about three miles from the apartment she shared with her husband.
Alexis had moved to West Texas from Florida, where she met and married Tom, whom she was first photographed with in October of 2018, and became a full-time social media influencer. They were married in December of 2019 and moved to Houston in January of 2020.
Friends revealed after her death that she was trying to file for divorce from her husband and that he had allegedly abused her. Detectives confirmed that while divorce papers had not been filed, there was evidence that it was going to happen soon.

Her husband has publicly denied those allegations, saying that Alexis was unhappy and stressed at the time.
‘Sy was nie gelukkig nie. Sy was gestres. Sy was 'n ongelooflike vrou,’ Tom told KTRK-TV at the time.
‘My vrou was 'n ongelooflike vrou. Sy was regtig. Daar is altyd ander kante aan alles. Ek was die een wat haar vashou, knuffel haar, and building her back up.
Ek sal dit laat afspeel soos dit is. I know what my life was with my wife.’

Robinault told ABC13 at the time that her son-in-law had called to say Alexis was missing a day after he had last seen her.
The mother said that her daughter ‘had an argument’ with her husband before leaving the house without her car.
Tom denied that he got into a fight with his wife the night she went missing.
This is where we’re at.’
Robinault revealed last month that she had to fight her son-in-law to get custody of Alexis’ body in order to bury her in her home state of Pennsylvania.
‘As her husband, he would have primary custody of what determined what happened with her, and he had said all along that he was willing to let her come home,’ Robinault told FOX26.
She said Tom eventually stopped cooperating with the family.
‘It just was a very strange – I’d almost call it – fight to get her,’ Robinault gesê.
‘I didn’t think I was gonna get her, and I had actually given up hope, when all of the sudden the forensics lab called me.’
The medical examiner eventually made Robinault the next of kin after two weeks of inaction from Tom.
The couple had been married about a year and had moved to Houston a year prior to her death.
