Sir Jackie Stewart claims Lewis Hamilton’s British Grand Prix crash with Max Verstappen ‘would’ve KILLED’ the Dutchman in another F1 era as he accuses BOTH drivers of ‘overdriving’ at Silverstone
The two title contenders were racing head-to-head in a thrilling opening lap at Silverstone back in July, before Hamilton tagged the Dutchman sending his rival spinning off the track at 51 times the force of gravity and into a safety barrier.
Hamilton was blamed for the incident by race stewards on the day, picking up a 10-second time penalty, but it failed to prevent him still going on to win his home grand prix while his rival was taken to hospital before being released shortly after

スチュワート, pictured at Wimbledon in July, believes drivers are taking too many chances in regards to safety in the modern era of the sport

Stewart was a pioneer in advancing the safety of Formula One during the Brit’s time in the sport.
But he now fears drivers are taking more high stakes risks given the safety measures now in place in Formula One.
‘People are taking more liberties today than they were before because the penalties are not so large… now it’s so safe that I think people are taking too many chances.
The Dutchman was fortunately able to walk away from his car unscathed but went to hospital
‘The early laps at Silverstone was a good example of that because I think both drivers were overdriving, particularly when you think about it being only the beginning of the race.
‘We’ve got to readdress that and sadly it sometimes takes a big, big action or even a life to make that come to real understanding.’
Having won at Silverstone and finished second at Hungary to overturn a 33-point deficit to now lead the world championship from Verstappen.
The Dutchman by contrast has endured two miserable events, following up his British Grand Prix crash with a 9th place finish at the Hungaroring after picking up damage at the first corner having been collateral damage in Valtteri Bottas’s crash into Lando Norris.
