Fern Russell, perseguire, told Portsmouth Crown Court, Hants: ‘At the turn of the decade, 1980, he was asked to leave Oakwood School. There was a complaint by a boy that was brought to the school’s attention.
‘The following year he joined Salisbury Cathedral School and there he continued his behaviour and he committed further acts of sexual abuse against pupils.’
The court heard further complaints by pupils under his care came to light at this school in 1985. He was asked to leave and Miss Russell said ‘his time in teaching, and his easy access route to children, ceased’.
Lei ha aggiunto: ‘Sexual offending against children is, and long has been, a very real issue… this is one of those cases where that access [to children] was exploited for many years.’
Nel 2018 Sussex Police contacted Oakwood School as part of a review and the school revealed a letter it received from a former pupil, refusing to attend a school reunion and detailing allegations of sexual abuse he suffered at the hands of Le Cheminant.
In response to this, police sent a letter to all those who attended while Le Cheminant was a teacher there and received several further allegations.

Miss Russell described their claims that Le Cheminant ‘exploited’ his role as one of the sports supervisors ‘as fully as possible to meet his own sexual interests’ by making the children swim naked and watching them during swimming lessons at the school.
She said he would ‘engineer time alone’ with pupils by taking them to the school basement, pavilion and his study where he would make them take off their clothes and ‘rub’ their buttocks and legs.
The court heard he would kiss and hug pupils, ‘smack’ their naked bottoms and watch them while they took showers.
Miss Russell said several of the men recalled Le Cheminant calling them to the front of class, where he would ‘put his hand down their underwear or shorts’.
One of the men even claimed the teacher inserted a finger into his anus in front of the class, while another had a vague recollection he ‘reached around and pinched his penis’.
One former pupil said Le Cheminant would smack their buttocks before cricket ‘to check they were not wearing underwear’.
Some of the incidents of sexual abuse were committed under the ‘cloak of discipline’, with one of the men telling police Mr Le Cheminant put him over his knee and slapped his bottom while he was naked for ‘messing around’.

Another said he was made to wear ‘flimsy shorts’ before the teacher smacked his buttocks.
As part of the police investigation, former pupils of Salisbury Cathedral School were also contacted and several more men came forward with allegations of abuse against Le Cheminant.
The court heard pupils of this school also said they were watched in the showers by the teacher and he would come into the bathroom to touch their bottoms and rub soap suds over their bodies.
At this school, Le Cheminant would allegedly take pupils alone to a room, make them lower their clothing and touch them inappropriately.
Miss Russell said the men claimed the teacher was often seen ‘lurking’ in the dormitory, where he put his hand inside the pyjama bottoms of several pupils while they slept and ‘fondled’ their buttocks.
When he was interviewed in 2019 dalla polizia, Le Cheminant, who has now retired, denied all allegations against him and said they were ‘simply nonsense’.
He told police the allegations against him had nothing to do with him leaving Oakwood School and he had planned to give up teaching anyway when he left Salisbury Cathedral School, adding it was a ‘coincidence’ allegations were being put to him at that time.
Miss Russell said the climate 36 anni fa, at the end of his teaching career, was ‘still a time when someone who having committed sexual offences against children and having been found out still might hope to have it brushed under the carpet if he walked away quietly enough and moved on’.
Lei ha aggiunto: ‘He was a popular teacher. He had that degree of charm it seems and he was able to foster an apparent relaxed closeness with the pupils that you may feel he used to facilitate the offending.’
Le Cheminant, of Poundsgate, Newton Abate, Devon, nega 15 counts of indecent assault.
