Describing the ‘ecosexual’ movement, Beth said: ‘The simple thing to define it is, an ecosexual is someone who loves the earth.

‘We imagine that the earth is our lover and we enjoy all the sensual pleasures that the earth has to offer,’ added Annie.

‘It’s a term people use to show their preferences… you don’t have to give up any of your other identities. It just means you enjoy taking pleasure with the earth, and giving the earth pleasure as well.

‘When you’re going for a walk you’re giving the earth a massage with your feet,’ suggested Beth, who said ‘all you have to do is love the earth to marry it’.

The presenters asked the couple how you become ecosexuals, with the duo claiming people can build their way up to ‘making love with the earth’.

‘We have a scale of ways people will feel, you can start out being eco-erotic, eco-sensual, eco-romance… or crazy wild eco,’ they said.

Annie added: ‘You’ve got to put your heart into it and just open yourself up and let your erotic energy move through you and feel the tree and love that tree.’

The couple explained that people ask whether the tree has ‘consented’, with Beth replying: ‘But we can’t talk to the tree but we listen and try to sense whether the tree likes to be hugged or not.

‘And a lot of people don’t mind people killing trees but getting intimate with the tree is considered taboo,’ added Annie.

Twitter users were baffled by the segment, with one writing: ”What am I watching and listening to? Ridiculous and you would have to plug your book.’

Another said: ‘Oh deary me!! Are these women for real, they’re like a bloomin double act!!,’ while a third added: ‘I have truly heard it all now.’
