    Conservative Party headquarters is said to have asked its members of Parliament to commit to going to a residential ‘away session’.

    The gathering will apparently focus on discussing party policy and sharing advice on campaigning.

    But MPs believe the Tory top brass will also seek to use the event to try to repair relations between different groups and to break up ‘cliques’.

    The Westminster sleaze row which has battered the Conservatives in recent weeks has increased internal party tensions, particularly between MPs who have only recently joined the Commons and some of their older colleagues.

    Some members of the 2019 ‘Red Wallintake believe some of their longer-serving counterparts are out of touch.

    The PoliticsHome website reported that the residential getaway has been pencilled in for Thursday January 6 and Friday January 7.

    A location for the event is yet to be decided but it is thought a venue in the West Midlands will be selected.

    Such away days are a fairly regular occurrence for the UK’s political parties as they are used to rally the troops and focus minds.

    Tory MPs believe that while there will likely be a focus on regular topics likes campaigning tips, there will also be attempts to improve links between the various intake groups.

    One Conservative MP told the website they believed the gathering will be a case of ‘let’s get everyone all in the same room and have a great big hug because we’re all friends’.

    The MP predicted CCHQ will ‘try to get you out of your friendship group – so they’ll be pairing 2019-ers with 2005ersin a bid to ‘break down some of the cliques and groups’.
