거주자 1 명, 근처에 사는 사람, 말했다: ‘All the windows have been smashed, even the brand new ones. All doors have been smashed, even some off the metal shutters.

‘I watched one traveller smash open the mains electric transformers for scrap metal. A car has been left around the back of the factory as well and large amounts of cable have been stripped from the site.

Another resident, 이름을 짓고 싶지 않은 사람, said locals had feared for their safety after 20 caravans descended on the car park over the Christmas period.

He said previously: ‘Many people’s Christmas has been ruined because of these people. We won’t leave our homes empty and others have cancelled family and friends coming over.

‘We have one way in and one way out, and that’s past this site. 그들 (the responding officers) had to wait for the riot police as back up before opening the gates on a public road. How do you think we local residents feel?

‘The gates were locked another couple of times after the police opened them. The travellers have simply ignored the order. How can they be allowed to just do that?

‘Law abiding citizens are being left to put up with this and suffer. We know police have the power to move them on but they’re too scared.

Angry neighbours said loud chainsaws, late night bonfires and other antisocial behaviour had kept them awake at night.

They also called for better security as it was the second time travellers had been there in less than a month.

Another resident said earlier in the week: ‘They are smashing up the old factory and have had two open fires so far. The neighbours are angry that nothing is being done.

‘They have been using power tools within the warehouse up until 12am at night and they are lighting fires on the site. We have had more police in the last two days then all the previous times but there is apparently nothing they can do.

‘The neighbours have logged about 15 complaints so far to the police about this situation. The site needs to be so much more secure.

‘They have only just cleaned up since the last time they were here. It needs to either have a security patrol or new gates and measures in place.
