Worker accidentally paid 330 times his salary vanishes, report says

Worker who was accidentally paid 330 times his salary offers resignation and vanishes without a trace, report says

  • Worker was accidentally paid 165million pesos (£150,000), 330 times his salary
  • Office employee went AWOL before handing in resignation, to company’s shock
  • Now frozen foods giant Cial has launched legal action against the millionaire
  • The HR staffer was supposed to be paid his usual monthly rate of just £450
  • An office worker who became a millionaire when his employer accidentally paid him 330 times his salary has disappeared after promising to send the money back.

The unnamed HR employee at Chilean frozen foods giant Cial inadvertently received 165million pesos (£150,000) on May 30.

He had expected his pay packet for the month to be around 500,000 pesos (£450).

After telling his line manager what happened, he was advised to go to the bank the next morning to return the cash face-to-face, according to Cial’s lawyers.

But the company claims he never turned up.

It is now suing the ex-employee to reclaim the money.

The HR worker claimed he overslept, texting his boss at 11am to say he would run the errand later.

Yet Cial didn’t hear another word until June 2 – when the worker submitted his resignation, through a lawyer.

Cial’s legal action states: ‘He was informed and clarified that this money did not correspond to the payment of any service’, according to Chilean newspaper DF Mas.

The firm claims that the ex-employee’s disappearance amounts to misappropriation.

Founded more than 50 years ago, Cial owns household name brands La Preferida, San Jorge and Winter.

It specialises in cold cuts and describes itself as ‘leaders in the wholesale market’.
