Your MoS is named Sunday Newspaper of the Year - again

We’re already Britain’s biggest-selling Sunday paper. Now, as the judges praise our string of agenda-setting exclusives… Your MoS is named Sunday Newspaper of the Year – again

The Mail on Sunday has been honoured for its outstanding journalism and crowned Sunday Newspaper of the Year at a prestigious awards ceremony.

After a momentous 12 months in which we surged past rivals to become Britain’s biggest-selling Sunday newspaper, the London Press Club judges praised our ‘agenda-setting exclusives’, fearless commentary, hard-hitting investigations and policy-changing campaigns.

It is the fifth time in nine years that the MoS has won the coveted award.

Our scoops included how one of Prince Charles‘s closest advisers offered to help secure a knighthood and British citizenship for a billionaire Saudi who had donated to the Prince’s charity, and that WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange had fathered two children while holed up in the Ecuadorian Embassy.

In a year dominated by the coronavirus pandemic, the MoS broke stories with global ramifications, including a string of exclusives by Foreign Correspondent Ian Birrell and Political Editor Glen Owen about evidence that the virus may have leaked from a Chinese laboratory.

Praised for his ‘extensive and very impressive’ reporting, Birrell – who evaded the KGB and paramilitaries to report on anti-government protests in Belarus – was shortlisted for Print Journalist of the Year.

The MoS brought unrivalled insider accounts of battles behind the scenes in No 10, not least how police had seized Ministers’ mobiles in the hunt for the ‘chatty rat’ leaker.

And our End The Trauma Of Lone Births campaign exposed how women were giving birth alone in hospital because of draconian Covid rules.

Completing a double triumph, the judges made our sister paper, the Daily Mail, Daily Newspaper of the Year – but the judges most important to us are you, the readers, who have made the MoS the nation’s favourite.
